Syros Greek Island

A week in Kini village on Syros Greek island, celebrating a friend’s birthday was a welcome treat. Our room at Morpheus Guest house was light and airy with a veranda and outside table and chairs.  The couple in the room next to us have been escaping the Australian winter and visiting Kini over many years and gave us an orientation to the area. One day we walked along a stretch of Kini beach,  and then over many rocks and boulders to the next beach. The two cafes there were not open yet for the season, so under a hot sun we walked back uphill along dusty tracks, finding Marino’s cool bar.

There is a lovely bakery nearby with outdoor seating where you can watch the world go by. Kini has an aquarium with a variety of tropical fish, eels and octopus. On a few days we took a bus ride around the island and into the main town of Ermoupolis, where the ferries and superyachts come into the harbour. Hilly cobbled streets give good views of the surrounding landscape. Flowering trees and plants are everywhere on the island which adds to its natural beauty.
