Venice Biennale 2026

I often go on holiday in May to celebrate my friend’s birthday. This year we went to the Venice Biennale which is a global international contemporary Art exhibition.  There were participants from 99 different countries and it has been referred to as being “the Olympics” of the art world. Participation in the Biennale is prestigious for contemporary artists. There are a variety of shows with a central exhibition curated by an artistic director, and national pavilions hosted by individual nations.

The Biennale’s president Pietrangelo Buttafuoco, allowed Russia, Israel and the United States to take part which provoked protests from individuals and benefactors. Pussy Riot protestors were at the Russian Pavilion during the Venice Biennale opening day on May 6th. There are independent exhibitions throughout Venice and it’s a great way of seeing art from different countries.
