One Week in Ireland
31st July, 2025
As a child I used to spend long summer holidays in Ireland. My mother was from a big Irish family, so seeing relatives and having fun with my cousins there was what we used to do. It is several years since my last visit but the memories came flooding back when I visited last week. The graveyard where some relatives are buried is well kept and tended with flowers and plants in abundance. It was good to see Virginia high street is still thriving with busy shops, cafes, bars and restaurants. Tesco and Lidl have recently opened new stores in the town.
Ramor Arts Centre was holding an Art and Photography exhibition, which was worth a visit. Every day I walked down to Virginia Lake and have fond memories of going down with family to cool off there in the summer holidays. It was good to see a new playground and exercise machines were busy on the lakeside shore and a few anglers were trying their hand at catching fish.
