A Mini Break in Penzance

It’s a long journey from Whitstable to Penzance in Cornwall, but worth the effort to catch up with old friends there. One day we went to Trevena Cross family owned garden centre, which has 35 acres to grow their plants. Large animal ornaments are dotted around in the foliage and there is a lovely cafe on site for visitors. Another day we walked up Causeway Head, which has new shops and galleries and was busy and thriving. Classic stone buildings like the School of Art have newly painted blue doors. Penzance Food festival was taking place over the weekend with produce for sale and entertainment from different bands like ‘Many Men Sound System’ choir.
We had a day out in Mousehole and walked around the harbour and called in to see a friend for coffee. There is a poignant Plaque there in memory of  the people who died in the Grenfell Tower Fire in 2017. After the tragedy people from London went to Mousehole for some respite by the sea. On our last day we went to the National Trust Nursery and tearooms at Penrose where 4,000 new trees were planted this year. From there we walked along the coast to Porthleven, a town and fishing port and the most southerly port in Britain.
